The Green Congress of Kenya party has announced changes in its National Executive Council (NEC), with former Rangwe MP Martin Ogindo exiting the stage as party leader to join President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Former Homa Bay senatorial candidate Hilary Alila has now taken the leadership of the party, replacing Ogindo.
Vincent Omuono was named the Deputy Party leader while businessman Thomas Mariwa the National Chairman.
Jane Anika is the party’s Secretary General, George Lando – deputy secretary general, Salome Gikonyo is the National Treasurer) and Richard Ojuka the National Organizing Secretary.
Others are; Scholar Chelang’at (deputy chairperson), Rosleine Magak (deputy treasurer – Finance), Straton Mbelenga (deputy organizing secretary) and John Omondi (Executive Director) among officials.
The party also named three Regional coordinators; Mohamed Yunis (Coast), Fatma Maalim (North Eastern) and John Ogutu (Nyanza).
“We are a grassroots party, born from the dreams and aspirations of everyday people who believe in a better tomorrow. We are the party of the future, and it’s time to create a path that leads us to the hearts and minds of the next generation of youthful, vibrant voters,” Alila said after NEC named him the party leader.
He said the party will seek new partners for posterity.
“Our commitment is unwavering. We are not confined by rigid ideologies or partisan boundaries. Instead, we are defined by our determination to put the interests of our citizens first. We are a party that transcends political divides, seeking partners and friends from all corners of the political spectrum. Our goal is clear: to strengthen our party and lay the groundwork for a coalition that will propel us into government,” he said.
The next generation of voters, he noted, is diverse, forward-thinking, and hungry for change.
“They seek a government that not only listens but also acts on their concerns, a government that is nimble, dynamic, and in tune with the challenges of the 21st century. We are that government in the making, and we are building it from the ground up.”
He said the party’s foundation is built on inclusivity, where all voices are heard and all perspectives are respected.
“We know that the challenges of our time require innovative solutions, and we welcome fresh ideas from all walks of life. This is the power of unity, a power that can help us overcome the divisive politics of the past and focus on the common good,” Alila said.
He went on: “Our youth, the vibrant voters of tomorrow, are looking for a party that believes in their potential, that harnesses their energy and ideas, and that provides them with opportunities to shape the future. We are that party! Together, we can build a government that reflects the hopes and dreams of the next generation.”
