EACC Summons Water agency CEO over sh147 Million Scandal

Kenya Water Towers agency CEO Prof. Julius Tanui has been summoned by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to shed light on the alleged embezzlement of millions of shillings earmarked for planting Bamboo trees in Kaptagat, Uasin Gishu County.
The troubled CEO had been previously sent on a compulsory leave by KWTA Board, because of the matter that involves over sh147 million but environment Principal Secretary Festus Nge`no intervened by reversing the board`s decision.

KWTA board is chaired by President William Ruto`s confidant Rashid Echesa.
Members in the Echesa led board are Feisal Mohammed, Agnes Yobterik, Rose Ombaki, Florence Oluoch, Elisha Busienei and Michael Waititu.
“Having considered the issues raised and the gravity of the matter, I propose that you schedule for a special full board meeting on Monday, 25th September to deliberate further on the matter since this is a weighty decision which requires further consultation. The resolution of the board is hereby suspended until otherwise advised,’’ reads part of the PS`s letter that quashed the board`s decision to send Tanui on a compulsory leave.

Kenya Water Towers Agency is mandated to coordinate and oversee the protection, rehabilitation, conservation and sustainable management of all the critical water towers in Kenya.
But the EACC now requires Tanui to provide the investigative agency with documents in the financial years 2017/2018, 2018/2019, 2019/2020,2020/2021,2021/2022 and 20222/2023.
