The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has underscored the vital role played by public participation in project implementation.

Consequently, KURA has established a robust policy on stakeholder engagement and public participation that is implemented alongside the communication policy.

According to Director General Eng. Silas Kinoti, the program has enabled the agency to meet the public needs and at the same demonstrate ownership of the road projects by the stakeholders we intend to serve.

He added that the authority will continue to conduct stakeholder meetings with the public during project planning and implementation.

Last week, KURA convened a stakeholders consultation forum to hasten the implementation of Nairobi Intelligent Transport System.

Last week`s stakeholders meeting on Intelligent Transport System (ITS), held at CITAM Valley Road.

CITAM Valley Road hosted the event that also captured the Junction Improvement project in Nairobi County.

KURA invited the public to give their views and comments that will guide the ITS implementation.

“The Nairobi Intelligent Transport System is a key project in our efforts to improve traffic flow and make Nairobi a more livable city, “Eng. Kinoti said.

He observed the authority is keen and committed to technological advancement using artificial intelligence in enhancing urban mobility, hence its commitment to provide world-class ITS innovations in its key urban road networks in Nairobi metropolitan and its environs.

” We also intend to install signal controllers, vehicle enforcement systems, vehicle detection systems and variable message signs with the funds,” Eng. Kinoti added.

The systems will also provide additional security to drivers, commuters and other road users.

An ITS is a system in which information and communication technologies are applied in managing road transport and infrastructure.

It uses intelligent cameras, variable timing traffic lights and a control Centre to observe and control traffic, thereby reducing the burden on traffic police officers.
