KURA Constructs over 1000km walkways in urban cities
The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has constructed over 1200km of walkways as part of giving emphasis to non-motorized transport (NMT).
Study shows that over 49 percent of Kenyans walk to and from work and lack adequate or proper movement facilities.
Kura director general Eng. Silas Kinoti noted that the agency is focusing on NMT with an aim of promoting the safety, health and dignity of pedestrians.
To protect pedestrians, the agency discourages driving, parking, riding, blocking or conducting businesses on the designated walkways.
“Smart cities across the globe have embraced non-motorized transport and in Kenyan cities NMT is fundamental to the urban mobility system,’’ Eng. Kinoti added.
Many Kenyans interviewed commended Kura for the pedestrian walkways
