New Faces take charge at Green Congress of Kenya party
New faces are angling to take control of the Green Congress of Kenya party affairs after the Registrar of Political Parties to published an intention of change of the party’s officials.
The strategic changes that come ahead of 2027 general elections has affected at 17 GCK officials.
In the new changes, Homa Bay Politician Hillary Alila successfully replaced former Rangwe MP Martin Ogindo as the new party leader.

Others affected are John Ariwo who has been replaced by Vincent Omuono as the deputy party leader while Scholar Chelangat has been moved from her previous position as the National chairperson and named the new GCK deputy chairman, to replace Eric Oduor.
Consequently, her former position has been handed over to Thomas Mariwa while the party’s secretary general will now be Jane Anika, replacing Mr John Omondi, while George Lando remains deputy secretary general.
Veronicah Mumbua has also been replaced as the National Treasurer with Salome Gikonyo while the deputy treasurer is Roseline Magak.
The new National Organizing Secretary will be Richard Ojuka replacing Mr Straton Mbelewa Mbelewa will now serve as Mr Ojuka’s deputy in the position.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 20 (1) (c) of the Political Parties Act, 2011, the Registrar of Political Parties gives notice that Green Congress of Kenya (GCK) intends to change its Party Officials as follows…,” states the gazette notice dated May 24, 2024 in part.

Alila, who is the immediate former chairman of the Kenya Professional Boxing Commission (KPBC), took over the party leadership at the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held in Nairobi in October 27, 2023.
The new party leader Alila vowed to take GCK to greater heights as they work closely with President William Ruto’s administration.
The former Homa Bay senatorial aspirant further indicates that he will focus on strengthening the party by recruiting more members and reaching out to like-minded parties.
